Sam, I think, MS competitor is Google Adwords and it is a success not because of publisher (Adsense), its because of the search engine and the way Google display itself outside as a technology company. Adsense to an extent hurt the Google branding, because it adds a extra load of work to track down click...

How are you measuring conversion and bounce rate? Are you using Google Analytics to measure Microsoft advertising? Remember the companies are rivalsso I would be very careful in testing to make sure that everything is working correctly and measuring accurately before you draw any conclusions.
