adExcellence exam sign in - server error?
I can't sign in to take the adExcellence exam. Every time I try to Sign in, it says "Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error...". So I clicked on "Contact Us" and filled out a form asking about what's going on with the site. It then said that the security certificate for the contact form had expired... BRILLIANT. Well to be fair the security cert expiring is a negligible annoyance -- the main thing was that I just wanted to take the exam but I just can't and I would like at least an explanation. I've emailed the specialist assigned to our agency, she said it looked alright to her and suggested I contact adexhelp; I havent heard a response yet from adexhelp. Now I've wasted lots of time sifting through the flotsam of the internet to find this forum in the hopes of figuring it whats going on... I feel like a blind man looking for a non-existent pair of glasses in a big room. Have I got the link wrong? Is it still http://adexcellence.com/adex/login.aspx ? What is going on? Has the program ended?

    Hi Pobbles,

I will research this morning and find some help for you. The link you list is correct. The program is still active. But I'll need to research a bit.

It sounds as though you have tried logging in at different time, or on different days, with same result? Is that correct?

If you get an answer from the help desk, or have success on your own, please let us know in the forums. We appreciate your using the community and adCenter.

    Hi Pobbles,

I tried to email you but it bounced.  Can you private message me with your contact information and I will help you resolve this?

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hello Chris and Jason,

Thanks for your replies. I've figured out what was wrong. I was trying to login with my adCenter account details rather than my adExcellence account details. A stupid mistake but unfortunately we had a couple of username changes on the adCenter side and this completely threw me off.

So what this implies is that if you enter in the wrong details to that adex form, it returns a Server Error. That's something you might want to investigate further...

It makes for quite a frustrating user experience (especially since the solution was dead simple, just by entering the right information) and there should have been some prompt to tell users that they entered in the wrong details, or at least a redirect to a normal page rather than a broken one.

Why are adCenter and adExcellence accounts seperate? From my perspective I've accrued far too many "accounts" to keep track of now. Just like my hotmail account (which again was a seperate account from this), which probably bounced for you Jason because its filled up and i can't keep track of it either. Maybe its unfair to compare but say for Google Adwords I logged in with the same username for everything - my email, my adwords account, and my exam. I didn't waste so much time standing on the cusp of taking the exam in a great confusion... and all over usernames.

So what is the rationale behind seperating the two services, adCenter and adExcellence?

    Regards,
    Debbie

    Debbie,

All good feedback.  And while I can't get into the specifics, I will let you know that we are working on an improved user experience that intends to make the username/password situation much more seamless.  I know it's quite frustrating right now, but I assure you improvements are on the way.

In terms of rationale for the way it's been, at the end of the day our intention was to be able to create a system that would provide us the flexibility for future growth of the program, and in order to do this, we need to understand who are users are in regards to adCenter.  Unfortunately, up to now that has meant a less than ideal username/password scenario.

Improved days ahead and thanks again for the feedback.

    Jason
