Welcome To The New Microsoft adCenter Analytics Discussion Forum

    Hi Mel,

I'm replying so the Welcome message doesn't get mixed with the unanswered questions.

    Thanks

Welcome To The New Microsoft adCenter Analytics Discussion Forum

Thanks for this forum. I hope this is a honest and clear way to improve matters. So in that spirit, lets go.

I find the Adcenter seems to be lacking in analytics, reporting and in my mind confusion among tech support about what reports have to say:

Analytics While the reporting data seems to be replete with "stuff", it seems not to provide the marketing insights. I have STILL not gotten clear answer on a) if some specific IP addresses (i.e., like mine) excluded from site visits? and b) geographical information on where the users of my site originate from c) PLEASE explain unique visitor, new visitors and return visitors. Not gotten a clear cut answer

Reports The Report section seems opaque to the AdCenter tech support. It seems to make no sense that the key people who can help out cannot see the data which would help them help us to craft our campaign

I would love to have a Google Analytics-like capability of slicing and dicing visitor data. Alas, not only is not available but the OfficeLive website does not allow one to tie in your OL Website with GA.

Welcome To The New Microsoft adCenter Analytics Discussion Forum

    Hi Rudy,

I can answer part of your questions on Analytics.  So let’s cover these one at a time.

    A)     If some specific IP address (i.e., like mine) excluded from site visits?

Simple answer is no.  Now for the long answer.  We don’t automatically exclude any IP address from your reports, but you can put in a specific excludes so that specific IP addresses or IP ranges can be excluded.  You would do this in the Control panels for the profile in question; in the Exclude IP address section.

Now here is the caveat.  We can only track users who allow the tracking javascript, that Microsoft Analytics beta uses, to run.  If, for security reasons, they block that javascript from running, we cannot report on them, as the script is what does the actual tracking.  So while we don’t exclude IP addresses, there is the potential for a small number of users to not be tracked due to them blocking the javascript.

    B)       Geographical information on where the users of my site originate from.

Microsoft Analytics beta does offer Geographic reporting.  On any report you should be able to drill down through the segmentation reports to the geographic reporting information.   To view segmentation for a specific item or group in a report, click the name, and then select View segmentation by item.

Other Segmentation you can view this way is Age, Gender, and Occupation, in addition to the Geographical location.  Keep in mind that if demographic information is not available for a visitor the information is included in the Unknown category.

    C)       PLEASE explain unique visitor, new visitors and return visitors.  Not gotten a clear cut answer.

Per the help file a unique visitor is “A distinct person who visits and interacts with a website. One visitor can make multiple visits to a website”.   So an individual browser is considered a unique visitor, new or return.

A New Visitor is a browser who is making their first visit to your website, while a return visitor is someone who has visited before, and returns to your website.  Both new visitors and return visitors are subsets of “Unique Visitors”.   I.e. 30% of the Unique Visitors to your site were new visitors while 70% were return visitors.

    Hope that helps!
