Why is Microsoft Publisher Closed to the public?

    I don't get it.

If Microsofts biggest threat it Google Adsence, why is the Microsoft Publisher program closed to the public?

If publishers can't quickly and easlie sign up, the whole system fails IMO.

I've been trying to get my sites into the program for over 2 years, with zero success.  Over 1.5 million impressions daily.

Does anyone else agree with me?  And what advantages does MS have keeping such an important product crippled?

    Sam,

I think, MS competitor is Google Adwords and it is a success not because of publisher (Adsense), its because of the search engine and the way Google display itself outside as a technology company.  Adsense to an extent hurt the Google branding, because it adds a extra load of work to track down click fraud and some advertiser don't even want content match at all.

MS has lot of websites on its own which can perform the publisher work (e.g MSN, MSNBC etc..) So in reality MS doesn't need publishers to promote it's Adcenter product, but for Google the story is different, it trying to evolve out as portal like Yahoo or MSN now.

I think that makes a huge difference, don't you think.

    With Regards,

Have to agree with the OP .. Microsoft needs to compete with Adsense if its offering is to be complete.

Google's prices on Adwords are ultimately driven by their supply of inventory across their network.  Adsense adds huge supply to their inventory, hence lowering prices to their Adwords customers.  If MIcrosoft is to limit its advertiser's to a very finite inventory (MSN. MSNBC, IM, Facebook etc), advertisers get less reach, and ultimately will pay higher prices.

Let's go MSFT, you have had enough time ... let's see an Adsense competitor ... steal some inventory supply from Google ... disrupt the market already!!!!    Publishers want choice too!  I think MSFT would be surprised on how many publishers would love to differentiate their sites by not having to use Adsense.

I have nothing new to announce on this front, except the interest form is updated. https://advertising.microsoft.com/publisher

If you want to share that link, please do.

    Well said Sam.

The way I see it is ... if they do not want you to provide them an income - give it to Google

Chris, thank you for the information, however what I'm wondering and webmasters who are not from the US, are they going to eventually have the chance to sign up as a publisher? I'm not talking from your professional stance, however from a more personal one, as if I was asking "Do you believe/think that adCenter Publisher will open up internationally?".

I mean like YPN, they have been in US-mode for over 3 years, will this be the same case with adCenter Publisher e.g. Is there an interest from Microsoft to open up this program to the international market, as at current, I would like to get my hands on this publishing service - as I'm using your advertising adCenter service.

    Thank you very much! :)

    Hi Jonny,

Thank you for using the forum. We don't have any information at this time about about when the pilot might expand to other regions. It's clear from this forum and other discussions that there is some interest internationally. At this time, however, the publisher service is still in a private pilot and limited to US only. As mentioned, we will evaluate customer interest and product performance as we move through the private pilot, but we have no specific launch plans to announce.

If the pilot is expanded, we will share that information here.

Thanks Chris! I can only hope it would launch internationally as there is no one as a big as Google which have done this, if Microsoft came into the equation, bang, you'd be a competing service, an actual one, not like the small time publisher groups.

I have one more question, I'm wondering, how long has adCenter Publisher been in private beta?

    Thanks!

    Thank you Jonathan.

We will be sharing this kind of feedback from customers with the team. As for how long, although the pilot started earlier this year, it is just now adding more users. I would encourage US based publishers who are interested to sign up on the interest form.

I thought it was worth pointing out, there has been some confusion between the adCenter Publisher pilot and the Content Ads beta. They are different programs. My colleague, Carolyn Miller, does a good job in this post explaining the Content Ads beta.

Gaaah.... internet technology is more advanced in the UK than in the US (talking about the infrastructure here, not the software) so why do these pilots keep being released in the US before the UK??

I know you have a larger market share there, but given that UK is Advertising land and that users in the UK are very web-savvy, it makes sense to let us test your new products and releases here too... :(((
