I like the stuff that Microsoft is putting out to help with a lot of this. I am a particular fan of the keyword Excel plugin (maybe a throw-back to my Excel-monkey days). I hope you are pushing them to create even cooler stuff.

If I may gently spam for a moment, I found the conversation about tracking and monitoring interesting as there is a new version of reputation.distilled.co.uk coming any time now...

That is why I recommend for companies who don't have the resources to insure proper tagging --to use log file analysis packages. There is no implementation needed for non ecommerce sites. The only optional implementation is a permanent cookie to follow repeat visitor.

No danger of coming to the wrong conclusions based on poor tagging. Set and forget!

I'm always amazed how big organizations spend six-figure-sums for web analytics software only to have the good feeling they're doing web-analytics, but without having the people or the processes in places that could lead to data-driven recommendations and finally action

Thanks for the comment and your participation within the adCenter community site. I checked out the system requirements for Silverlight (www.microsoft.com/.../faq.aspx) and noticed that currently support is provided for Windows and Mac OS. Linux support is being addressed through Moonlight by the Mono Project (www.mono-project.com/Moonlight).

Thanks,

There would be nothing wrong with a Flash killer if the solution weren't a web killer at the same time. While I really do want to see Microsoft succeed on the web (Google is great, but all companies need healthy competition), it isn't clear to me that Microsoft is really committed to a platform agnostic web.

Please insure that your Silverlight integration remains an optional, as for some, Microsoft's current answer is "it ain't for you, you're out of luck".

Great article, although I typically shy away from 12 step programs, this one makes sense. I think the two points that should be taken to heart are retention and optimization. There are no truer words than the customers you have are much cheaper to convert than customers that have never heard of you. Optimization is a great practice to take on in slow times because typically you are less busy, use some of that spare time to make your site as good as possible.
